Report: Manchester United to be offered Edinson Cavani transfer

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United will be offered the chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani for free in the summer.

But the Uruguayan is not available this month.

Having missed out on the signing of Erling Haaland, who moved from Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund at the start of the January transfer window, Man Utd are still looking for a striker.

However, it sounds like they have prioritised midfield acquisitions due to key injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.

Negotiations are underway with Sporting Lisbon over the likely transfer of Bruno Fernandes. James Ducker of The Telegraph claims the Portugal international has already agreed personal terms with United ahead of his proposed transfer.

The report claims United were hoping to secure a deal at around £50m for Fernandes, but Sporting have been holding out for a fee of around £68m.

United were previously linked with 33-year-old Mario Mandzukic as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku but those claims came of nothing as the Croatian joined Qatar Stars League outfit Al-Duhail.

Now it is claimed that Cavani has been offered to the club, and MEN Sport understand that Cavani won’t leave PSG in the January transfer window as the French club value the player at €30m.

He is not expected to sign a new deal at the Parc des Princes so is likely to leave in the summer.

The MEN goes on to claim that sources have revealed that a move to Old Trafford is a ‘possibility’ in the summer, with Chelsea and Atletico Madrid also listed as interested clubs.
