According to Portuguese journalist Filipe Dias, as quoted by Sky Sports, Fernandes is closing in on switch to United.

United fans have heard such reports in the summer so there will be inevitably caution surrounding the prospect of signing the type of player who will not only straighten Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield but also his attack.

BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone has verified reports that Solskjaer went to scout Fernandes in Lisbon against FC Porto last weekend.

He also confirmed Sporting officials are in England to discuss the transfer.

Listen to Stone’s update below (via BBC 5 Live Sport):

Those reports led to former United captain Rio Ferdinand tweeting ‘Brunoooooooooooo’.

Then Fernandes’ agent Rui Guimaraes appeared to like Ferdinand’s tweet, which prompts more speculation a deal is close to happening.

The Express claims Guimaraes then unliked the tweet and later suspended his Twitter account.

We don’t know if the Twitter account in question was definitely ran by Fernandes’ agent, but The Express seems to believe that it was in fact that of Guimaraes.
