Former Manchester United right-back Paul Parker doesn’t believe that defensive duo Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are good enough.
Parker, who spent five-years at United in the 90s, hit out at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred centre-back partnership after watching the Red Devils lose 2-0 against Arsenal on New Years Day.
This criticism is rather alarming given United splashed out £80m on Maguire, as reported by BBC Sport, and £31m (also via BBC Sport) on Lindelof two-and-a-half-years ago.

Lindelof was a José Mourinho signing and he enjoyed his best season at the club last term.
However, the Sweden international has blown hot and cold since the 2019/20 campaign kicked off.
And with all respect to the defensive duo, they haven’t looked anywhere near a partnership that should cost £111m since playing together.
Maguire had a night to forget — arguably his worst in a United shirt.
This is what Parker had to say (via GOAL):
“Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are not good enough. I don’t know how they are going to improve on the two of them.”
“They still have players who won’t be taking United forward when you consider defenders like Jaap Stam, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic who were vital when United teams were winning.
“A lot of people are talking about how much money United need to spend to bring in new defenders but what they are not thinking about is whether the players will actually want to come to Old Trafford right now.”
It may be time to call on Axel Tuanzebe again as his pace should compliment Maguire’s game at the very least.
While Eric Bailly returned to first team training last week, the Ivorian’s future hangs in the balance with his contract set to expire in the summer.
We are beginning to wonder if Solskjaer needs to have a little rethink about his defence…
