Paul Pogba is a player that divides opinion among the Manchester United fanbase.
Some Reds think he is a player of genuine world class quality who needs to return to the team to provide that missing creative spark in midfield. Meanwhile, others think Pogba is not committed to the club and he doesn’t live up to the hype that surrounds him.
The Frenchman has played just six out of 26 games for the Reds this season, and has not featured since the 1-1 home draw against Arsenal in late September.
Former Red and fan favourite Dimitar Berbatov is in the camp that wants to see Pogba stay at Old Trafford.
Berbatov gave his thoughts on the midfielder in his regular Betfair column:
“He will want to be out there playing and training with the boys and he is one of their best players.
“He is a player that can really find that final pass when the game isn’t quite going too well and that’s why I would like to see Pogba back on the pitch as soon as possible because it has been a while now. He will need to find his rhythm in the first couple of games but I’m sure he will be back to his best.
“For me, I would like to see Pogba stay at United, he can give so much more to the team, many others may not agree but he is a player who is always one or two steps ahead, he has that pass and has an incredible shot on him, so I hope he comes back stronger.”
While Pogba has his critics, I agree with Berbatov in the sense that Pogba can do things on the pitch that other United midfielders simply can’t.
We have seen time and time again United struggle to break down teams with a low block in recent weeks, and you can’t help but think the Frenchman would have had the ingenuity or provided a moment of individual brilliance to unlock the door.
Pogba is expected to return before the new year, with the Reds to face Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday.
