Dimitar Berbatov’s prediction for Manchester United v Everton

Manchester United have been presented with an excellent opportunity to move within two points of the top four with victory over Everton tomorrow.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will be looking to make if four straight wins, with confidence high after the 4-0 blitz against AZ Alkmaar to ensure the Reds topped their Europa League group on Thursday evening.

Pressure was mounting on the Norwegian after the draw against Aston Villa a fortnight ago, but victories over Tottenham and Manchester City have reminded us just how quickly things can change in football.

The Reds have proved they can take points from the best teams in the league but now face an arguably bigger challenge in defeating teams lower down the league, which has been such a struggle this season.

In theory, United have a host of ‘winnable games’ coming up over the festive period with Watford and Newcastle to follow the home game against Everton on Sunday.

Interim boss Duncan Ferguson will have his players fired up after they beat Chelsea at Goodison Park last weekend,  in what could potentially be another managerial job audition for the former Toffees player.

But former United striker Dimitar Berbatov has backed the Reds to win comfortably on Sunday.

“Everton aren’t a small team but United should always beat them at Old Trafford,” Berbatov told Betfair, as sourced by Manchester Evening News.

“I love Duncan Ferguson, he was a brilliant player who excelled at bullying defenders, and he’s given Everton a lift since taking over as caretaker manager. Last week, you could see his energy flowing through Everton when they beat Chelsea.”

“It won’t be easy for United on Sunday but, if they play with as much desire as they have done in their past two league games, I can see them winning this one by a couple of goals.”
