Man Utd loanee Chris Smalling could be out until new year with knee injury

On-loan Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has suffered a knee injury that could rule him out of action until the new year.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Smalling has suffered bruising and a knock on his left knock which means he may not return until after January.

The centre-back has impressed at Roma in the Serie A since his season-long loan move from Old Trafford this summer.

Smalling’s injury will prove a loss for Paulo Fonseca, with the Englishman a mainstay in the Roma manager’s starting eleven this season.

It’s a shame to hear Smalling has sustained an injury as he has been in such good form in Italy.

The 30-year-old took a risk in leaving Manchester for Italy this summer, but the move has certainly benefitted his career. He is enjoying far more first-team football than he would have had under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who could not even guarantee the defender a place on the substitutes bench at United.

As reported by the Guardian, Roma are interested in making the deal for Smalling permanent next summer after his fine performances so far this season.
