It was a summer of change at Old Trafford as new Manchester United manager wielded the axe, cutting off the deadwood and replacing them with young, fresh and ambitious players eager to make a name for themselves. It was hoped, at the time, that the approach would have a similar impact as when Sir Alex Ferguson did something similar in the early days of his reign.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wasn’t slow in spending cash during pre-season either, but it didn’t have the desired effect. In fact, it is in real danger of blowing up in his face and costing the young boss his position. Supporters believe Ole should be given more time to get it right, just as Fergie was when cutting his teeth. Critics rage, countering that the club have already spend far too much money following Solskjaer’s plans and should get rid before he inflicts anymore damage.
Will the board stick with their manager?
What’s the truth? Which path with the Manchester United board take? It is true they are disappointed with the start made by Ole, but they would prefer to be seen backing their manager and not cutting ties after just half a season. It will take the 46-year-old Norwegian time, but it is also important for him to know there are consequences to poor form, especially on the back of throwing money around during the summer transfer window.
Before bringing any new players in to help steady the ship and strengthen his ranks, Ole must get rid of a few of the club’s higher earners, those who continue to rake in huge wages but have been contributing very little to the cause since August. There’s certainly no shortage of players who have let the club down this season and will fear for their future at Old Trafford. Some aren’t happy and will choose to jump before they are pushed, others just haven’t made the grade and will be told in no uncertain times that their future lies elsewhere, possibly at a lower level.
Matic expected to leave
The news that Jose Mourinho has replaced Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham rocked the Premier League, but is should be of particular interest to Man Utd fans. Not only will their former manager be in place at a top four rival, he may want to come in and take a few of his former Old Trafford employees.
The Special One is a big fan of defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic and it has been rumoured he could be on the move this summer. Matic may join Mourinho’s side once again. That’s one well worth keeping an eye on.
Fans want rid of Pogba
One man that divided opinion since the day he joined Manchester United is Paul Pogba but more fans than ever before seem to watch rid of him and the player seems to understand that. Pogba has been linked with a move out of the country for the last two transfer windows and it’s expected to happen sooner rather than later.
Pogba’s lack of effect on the squad is alarming for a player of his talents and the only way to explain the current situation is to guess he isn’t happy with the team and wants to move on in an attempt to get his career back on track. Few would stand in his way.
Place your bets
How will the rest of the Premier League season go for Man Utd? Will they turn things around in the early part of 2020? Will the board stick with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or cut their losses and run, putting their faith in a more experienced boss? Only time will tell. Looking to place your hopes or doubts regarding United’s season? Check out these new betting site. Many outright markets are available, including top four finish, top six finish and top 10 finish.
There’s even a market for the next manager to be sacked and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn’t too far away from the head of that list. That’s no surprise, given his recent form and the fact his team are struggling in midtable. After 13 games The Red Devils can be found down in ninth with stats of four wins, five draws and four defeats. It’s little wonder fans and the board are growing restless.
