On the back of last night’s incredible 9-0 victory as Leicester thumped Southampton, a truly astonishing statistic surfaced.
The Foxes didn’t only equal the Premier League record for the biggest winning margin. This amazing stat has a family feel to it, which makes it all the more special.
Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel and son Kasper, currently first choice shot stopper for Leicester, are the only two Premier League goalies to have seen their team score 9 goals in one game and keep a clean sheet.
This sort of statistic may not be replicated for another generation, but it’s amazing that it’s happened with father and son, which is something none of us are likely to see again in our lifetime.

The Premier League’s Twitter account were quick to share this stat on Friday night, shortly after Leicester’s win over the Saints, as seen below:
In United’s 9-0 win over Ipswich back in 1995, the scorers included: Andy Cole (5), Mark Hughes (2), Roy Keane and Paul Ince.
Nowadays United struggle to score more than once in games. It just goes to show the standard of football played under Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Reds would stick the knife in and show no misery. Goals galore.
Oh, how I wish we could be like that again.
