Earlier this week, The Independent ran a story claiming Manchester United will go back in for a striker in January.
It notes that Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic and Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele are currently under consideration, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side struggling in front of goal since the beginning of the season.
The need for a goalscorer was enhanced once Solskjaer sanctioned the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan in the summer, and we’re still talking about finding a replacement with the transfer window closed. This will either drag on into January or next summer.

Injuries to Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have hit and we are about to enter an encounter with Arsenal with Mason Greenwood, 17, being the only recognised striker.
However, the latest from Mundo Deportivo claims there is nothing at all between Dembele and United. Barcelona has no interest in selling the Frenchman.
The Spanish publication even denies any contact between United and Barcelona over Dembele’s signature at any point.
Dembele is an extremely quick forward so you can see some of the characteristics that would lead Solskjaer towards him as a future signing, but his move from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona hasn’t gone all that smoothly.
There’s a good player in there trying to hatch out.
