Manchester United legend Gary Pallister thinks James Maddison is the player that could take the Reds to the next level.
Maddison has made another impressive start to the season at Leicester City, scoring the winner for Brendan Rodgers’ side against Tottenham last weekend.
The attacking midfielder was recently called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad, but did not feature in the games against Bulgaria and Kosovo.
United were heavily linked with Maddison in the summer transfer window, and the Independent reported that the Reds were in pole position to sign the 22-year-old.
“There was a lot of talk about him in the press,” Pallister told BonusCodeBets.
“He stood out in the game against Tottenham, he’s got a lot of quality and energy – and he obviously scored the winner.
“He’s the type of player who can take Man United to the next level. However, Ole needs to try his best for now to squeeze the best out of the squad he has for the next few months.”
Solskjaer is deprived of creative options in his current squad, and an a number 10 should have been prioritised this summer. The Reds have scored just six goals in their last seven games and it’s pretty clear that Jesse Lingard is not the player to fill the role.
Maddison is one of the most exciting young British talents, so fits the mould in Solskjaer’s recruitment plan.
Despite just enjoying one full season in the Premier League, he is the kind of creative spark United are crying out for to play in between the lines and look to create chances for forwards Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
