United fans react in disbelief to claims Lingard is on verge of signing a new contract

Manchester United fans don’t seem very happy about Jesse Lingard being reportedly on the verge of a new contract.

The England international, 26, has not scored or assisted a goal for eight months and fans are questioning why he should be rewarded with an improved deal.

But manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made his admiration for Lingard known since arriving in December following José Mourinho’s dismissal.

Reports of a new deal for Lingard being a priority was reported by The Sun — as well as for starlet Mason Greenwood — emerged this week following extensions for David de Gea and Victor Lindelof.

All of these players must be happy with Solskjaer if they’re all willing to commit their long-term futures to Old Trafford.

Lingard is halfway through a four-year deal which he signed in 2017 when Mourinho was in charge, but there is the option to extend it by an additional 12 months.

A number of United fans took to Twitter after hearing the latest on Lingard and they don’t sound very pleased.

United take on FK Astana in their Europa League opener tonight and Lingard is expected to feature at some stage.
