Tahith Chong reveals contract situation at Manchester United

Tahith Chong has confirmed that talks are ongoing over a new contract at Manchester United.

The 19-year-old impressed in the first-team setup during the pre-season tour, but is yet to feature in the Premier League this season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Chong, who is currently preparing for Netherlands U21’s European Championship qualifying game against Cyprus, has continued to make his mark for the U23 side under Neil Wood instead, scoring twice in three games.

Speaking about negotiations over a new deal, Chong told Voetbal Primeur.as cited by Manchester Evening News:

“Of course we are talking.

“But it is still too early to say anything about it.”

The youngster is an extremely talented winger who showed glimpses when he broke into Solskjaer’s side late on last season.

Chong and fellow academy graduate Angel Gomes’ contracts both run out at the end of the season, so it is crucial the pair agree contracts to secure their long-term future at Old Trafford.

Although they are yet to be given an opportunity under Solskjaer this season, the Europa League group stages start this month, along with the League Cup tie at home to League One outfit Rochdale.

This should be a chance for the youngsters to get first-team minutes and push for a regular first-team place ahead of the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard, who are currently underperforming for the Reds.
