Young Man Utd stars score in behind closed doors game against Premier League opposition

Manchester United took part in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Sheffield United at Carrington on Tuesday.

As per Manchester Evening News, Angel Gomes, Mason Greenwood and Andreas Pereira all scored in a 3-1 victory for the Reds over Chris Wilder’s side.

Despite the young scorers, it is believed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer selected an experienced XI to face the Premier League side.

It was an opportunity for some players who have not yet made it into match day contention to impress the Norwegian.

Phil Jones and Chris Smalling both started at the back, alongside Diogo Dalot who will struggle to get back into the first-team set-up following the arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Alexis Sanchez also featured in the game, despite being heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan before the European transfer window shuts on September 2.

MEN’s report says that all United player’s who did not start the 1-1 draw at Wolves on Monday were given the opportunity to play; Greenwood and Pereira obliged and scored in the game after coming on from the bench at Molineux.

Angel Gomes is also knocking on the first-team door, and we hope Solskjaer is impressed enough by the 18-year-old to start picking him in match day squads for Premier League games.

Full starting XI: Sergio Romero, Dalot, Smalling, Jones, Darmian, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Pereira, Gomes, Sanchez, Greenwood.
