Solskjaer believes forward can reach “world class” status, must replicate first season form at Man Utd

Anthony Martial signed a new long-term deal towards the end of last season and fans are still waiting for the penny to drop.

The France international was the club’s top goalscorer in his debut season at the club, back in 2015, when he signed under Louis van Gaal and burst onto the scene by scoring a fantastic solo goal against rivals Liverpool.

We all thought ‘woah, a future Ballon d’Or winner’ is in our hands, but his career has tailed off since then.

At times Martial doesn’t look interested and it’s a shame knowing what an incredible player he could become.

It sounds like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still believes in him and has enough patience to help Martial become the player we all know he can.

He believes Martial can reach world class status at United, which is probably the reason we gave him a bumper deal not long ago.

Speaking to the press in Singapore this morning, as per MEN, Solskjaer said: “Anthony can be a world class forward. I think if you followed Anthony the way he has come back to pre season, his attitude is spot on. I think he has always got the quality and talent, so I expect him, and Marcus, to be even better than last season. Anthony had a top season when he came, I expect we will see a better Anthony next season.”

Martial already has a goal to his name from the pre-season tour, scoring a penalty against rivals Leeds United on Wednesday, in a comfortable 4-0 win.

United take on Inter Milan tomorrow and he is expected to feature at some point.

The French star was linked with a move to the Italian giants last summer when former manager José Mourinho considered letting him leave the club, as reported by the Guardian.
