Man Utd vs Leeds: Pre-season tour 2019 match preview, live stream, team news, prediction

Manchester United take on Leeds United on Wednesday afternoon (UK time) in their second pre-season friendly of the summer, at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

The two English clubs have been rivals since the dawn of time, but with Leeds now a Championship side we don’t get to face them as much as we’d like.

Leeds were relegated from the top-flight in 2004 and have yet to return, although last season they came very close under highly-rated tactician Marcelo Bielsa.

The Red Devils got their pre-season tour off to a winning start on Saturday with a 2-0 victory over A-League champions Perth Glory. Academy graduates Marcus Rashford and James Garner were responsible for the goals.

Luke Shaw picked up an injury and had to be replaced, so he’s a doubt for the clash against Leeds even though he trained on Monday.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is likely to give everyone a run against Leeds, like he did against Perth, using 23 of the 28 players he brought on tour.

Romelu Lukaku is back training with the squad and is expected to make a return on Wednesday.

Leeds, on the other hand, have brought 16 players for the trip to Australia. The rest of the squad stayed in England to work on their fitness.

Predicted Man Utd line-up

De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Tuanzebe, Jones, Young; McTominay, Pogba; James, Mata, Martial; Greenwood.

Verdict

Leeds have played two pre-season games so far – beating York City 5-0 and Guiseley 2-1.

United should have too much for the Championship side, but the priority is coming out of the game without any additional injuries as well as a boost in fitness for everyone involved.

It’s going to be a good test for both sides ahead of the new campaign, as both look to compete at the top of their respective leagues.
