Why five Man Utd players have not gone on pre-season tour

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer named a 28-man squad for the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and Southeast Asia.

The Manchester United boss will be hopeful of a better season after finishing sixth last term and missing out on the Champions League places. That throws the Red Devils into the Europa League, a competition we won in 2017.

However, names such as Alexis Sanchez, Fred, Matteo Darmian, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Dean Henderson were all left out of Solskjaer’s 28-man list for the tour.

There’s a chance several of these haven’t got futures at United, but who is going to come in and pay Sanchez the same as what he earns at United?

Sanchez

He has been given extra holiday time following his involvement in the Copa America with Chile. He also got injured in the third-place playoff.

Fred

Getting married next week. Timing not ideal as he needs to prove himself this season after a disappointing debut campaign.

Darmian

No real explanation for this one other than he is due to link up with the squad at a later date. At this stage, United should just worry about finding him a new home.

Fosu-Mensah

Still recovering from the knee injury he picked up whilst on loan with Fulham last season.

Henderson

Likely to go out on loan soon so the club must be confident about De Gea signing a new deal.
