Mirror: Talks come to abrupt end as ‘stunned’ Man Utd told to pay £100m for PL defender

Manchester United are said to be ‘stunned’ by Leicester City’s hefty valuation of Harry Maguire.

According to The Mirror’s John Cross, the Red Devils have ended their pursuit of Maguire because the Foxes demand £90m plus £10m in add-ons for the England international.

Leicester know United are in the market for a centre-back and are bending over backwards trying to get the biggest fee possible for Maguire’s signature, but thankfully it sounds like we’re about to pull out of any potential deal.

There are better defenders out there than Maguire and I always found it hard to believe that he could be our prime target to bolster the defence.

Since leaving Hull City for Leicester in 2017, he’s become an England starter and has been constantly linked with a move to Old Trafford since last year.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester City will swoop in now that it sounds like United will move on to other targets. They need a replacement for Vincent Kompany.

United are today being linked with a move for Barcelona and France defender Samuel Umtiti, as per Mundo Deportivo, cited by Football Espana.
