Ashley Young sends message to Aston Villa after former club achieves Premier League promotion

On Monday, Villa managed to beat Frank Lampard’s Derby County 2-1 in the Championship play-off final and have now booked their place back in the top-flight for next season.

Young spent four years at Villa Park before earning a transfer to Manchester United.

He has gone from playing as a winger to becoming a full-back and a stand-in captain for the Reds from time to time.

The former England international will undoubtedly be looking forward to facing his former club next season, especially since they came so close to being promoted 12 months ago but lost the play-off final that time around.

See Young’s tweet congratulating Villa below. He said: ‘Congratulations, good to see you back in the @premierleague.’

This time it was different and Manchester United loanee Axel Tuanzebe played the final at centre-back.
