Video: Mother of Man Utd star shows delight at meeting Lionel Messi

Barcelona came away from Old Trafford with a win on Wednesday night, but not all of their players got the same reception as Lionel Messi.

All eyes were on the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. Everyone thought he would tear United asunder, but that wasn’t the case while Barcelona still won.

Chris Smalling left a mark on Messi in the first half after a collision which left the Argentine with a bloody face.

Before that, Messi played a role in Luke Shaw’s own goal, where he found Barça teammate Luis Suarez with a chip at the back post to make it 1-0 in the 12thminute.

Messi was quiet by his standards but United need to make sure to mark his every move at Camp Nou next week.

Among the highlights of that night for Messi would have been when the 32-year-old was greeted by Romelu Lukaku’s mother, Adolphine, who was delighted to meet the world’s best footballer.

“Oh, Messi, Messi!” she beamed, showing no hard feelings after watching her son lose a match.

Messi reacted by turning towards Lukaku’s mother and giving the woman a hug. She was thrilled!
