Man Utd need to be fighting for all the big prizes next season, claims Berbatov

Dimitar Berbatov got his wish as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer landed the Manchester United job. The former striker now wants the Reds to get back to the league top as quick as possible.

Speaking to Betfair, Berbatov said: “Getting the job is a brilliant first step, but in many ways, the difficult work starts now. The pressure is going to be huge – Ole will now be fighting to keep the job, rather than get it.

“I’ve heard the argument that United were holding off appointing Solskjaer full-time to keep the players hungry, but there is no way they will take their foot off the pedal – these are top professionals and they have loads of play for.

“The aim this season will be to get in that top four – and as far as they can in the Champions League of course – but come next season they need to be targeting the title. This is Manchester United we are talking about!

“Ole has had the chance to look at the team this season and he absolutely needs to be fighting for all the big prizes next season.”

Berbatov can also be found on Instagram delivering messages of support towards his former clubs, but most notably United.

It’s clear from the reaction of Solskjaer’s announcement that everyone connected with United is buzzing. He deserves the job after his work the past few months as caretaker manager and it finally feels like some of the club’s DNA returned after losing their way after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

And, how fitting is it that a former Ferguson player has helped restore the club’s identify, alongside his former right-hand in.

Solskjaer has had the backing of many former players, including Patrice Evra, who shared the video below following Thursday’s big announcement.
