Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit a sensitive note with Liverpool ahead of their trip to Old Trafford today.
The caretaker boss believes that Liverpool fans in Norway are delusional in their belief that their team will win things…
“I have loads of Liverpool fans back home and every year is going to be their year,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports. “It has got to October and it’s: ‘Ok, next year.’
“Now they are in the race so for them, it is going to be an exciting finish to the league. That is none of our concern. We just have to concentrate on ourselves.”
I wouldn’t single Norway out, though I’ve never visited the country. There are delusional Liverpool all over the world and sadly there’s no way to get away from it all.
It’s a shame we’re not in the title race this season but next season could be very different if United continue to improve and sign the right players. Solskjaer was brought in to pick up the pieces.
Jurgen Klopp and his players need to win at Old Trafford to keep the pressure on title contenders Manchester City. This is their game in hand and a win will take them into first place.
Liverpool go into the game as underdogs despite being in a stronger position this season. It’s a very different situation to when we last played them AND lost, under José Mourinho.
That was Mourinho’s last game in charge before being replaced by Solskjaer. It will be interested to see how we approach the game against them rather than sitting back with ultra-defensive football.
