Peter Schmeichel makes bizarre ‘regret’ claim about David Moyes at Man Utd

David Moyes was completely out of his depth at Manchester United.

The only regret, in our eyes, was giving him the job in 2013 after Sir Alex Ferguson announced his retirement.

It was a recipe for disaster to hand the biggest job in football to a manager that had won nothing as a top-flight, but former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel doesn’t agree. How bizarre.

“If we should have any regrets as Manchester United that is that we only gave David Moyes 7 months,” Schmeichel told beIN SPORTS. “He would’ve grown into that role. From the club’s perspective we should never ever have dismissed him.”

Firstly, where is Schmeichel getting this “we” from? This is a player who signed for rivals Manchester City a couple of years after leaving United, before celebrating a goal against his former club with a summersault.

And what evidence does he have that Moyes would have grown into the role? He’s currently out of management and has achieved nothing since getting fired at Old Trafford.

The football was abysmal under Moyes, the results weren’t great either, and the players were not convinced by his management with good reason.

In hindsight, Schmeichel may argue that Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho didn’t work out in the aftermath of Moyes, but at least both managers had track records across European football. There was some evidence they were the right men for the job.

Now, let’s see if Solskjaer can get the job on a full-time basis or if the club has something else up their sleeve.
