Anthony Martial: Solskjaer asks me to attack more than Mourinho

Anthony Martial sat alongside Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Monday press conference ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

The French striker was asked what difference Solskjaer has made since José Mourinho was sacked back in mid-December.

While it was a rarity to see him smile and laugh, Martial made it clear Solskjaer allows him and others to attack more and be more decisive.

He’s definitely enjoying himself!

It becomes even more clear with time how mismanaged some of our players were under Mourinho. I now think we gave the Portuguese manager too much respect, and now he’ll probably make non-stop excuses in the press to try keep his reputation intact.

Martial is back to his very best, cutting through defences with ease and finishing when it matters most, and it was pretty evident at today’s press conference that he wouldn’t like his work with Solskjaer to stop anytime soon.

“Well obviously things are going really well, we are really happy,” said Martial, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “I hope we can keep him, but it is not down to us.”

It was a nice touch to ask Martial to be part of the briefing. Despite being at Manchester United since 2015, Martial remains an unknown personality to many fans. He always seemed a quiet lad, perhaps a bit moody, but this evening we saw something different. It was great to see!
