Man Utd confident over new deal with De Gea

David de Gea is happy to stay at Manchester United but is pushing for the best deal possible, according to ESPN.

United triggered a one-year extension clause in De Gea’s contract in November that will keep matters on the table until 2020. It doesn’t give United a lot of time but time nonetheless.

The report states that negotiations are underway with aims for a fresh long term agreement.

ESPN reporter Rob Dawson wrote the following: “De Gea is settled in Manchester and has been delighted with the support he has received from United fans after a rocky start to his career in England and particularly after his botched move to Real Madrid in 2015.”

But considering De Gea has been United’s most important player in recent years, the Spaniard should be one of the high-earners alongside Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez.  No-one can blame him for wanting the best deal possible.

His performance against Tottenham last weekend was a heroic one. You could definitely argue that United aren’t winning that game in the last half hour with Spain’s No.1 between the posts.

The ESPN report also states that United are confident they will strike a deal with the goalkeeper before he enters the final year of his contract.

So, we can rest assured knowing De Gea will sign that dotted line? No. I’ll rest when it’s in print, done and dusted.
