Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praises ‘best goalkeeper in the world’ after United beat Spurs

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was delighted after ‘earning the right to win’ in United’s 1-0 victory over Spurs at Wembley.

Marcus Rashford’s excellent winner on the stroke of half time was the difference between the two sides, after a series of crucial saves from the unbeatable David De Gea, preventing a relentless attacking onslaught from the home side.

The win now means Solskjaer has won his first six games as United boss, and has now come out on top in his toughest test so far. The interim manager praised the Reds’ defensive display after keeping their third consecutive clean sheet.

“In the first half we were excellent and in the second they put us under pressure. We could have scored a few as well but we had a good back four and David (De Gea) was unbelievable.

“We created enough chances to put the game away by the break, but if you don’t score you will be under pressure. We defended fantastically,” Solskjaer told the BBC.

The Norweigan also highlighted United’s togetherness as key aspect of the win.

“Team spirit, that’s the first, second, we can defend. Jonah (Phil Jones), Victor (Lindelöf), fantastic with Luke (Shaw) and Ash (Young) next to them, we’ve got the best goalkeeper in the world, I’ve said that many times.” Solskjaer said as per Manchester Evening News.

Solksjaer also praised Marcus Rashford for scoring what turned out to be United’s winner. The former striker certainly knows a thing or two about putting the ball in the net for the Reds and understood the difficulty of the youngster’s strike.

“It’s a hard skill to score from that angle with a right foot and an instep, I thought he was going to go near post but it was a well struck finish,” Solskjaer said.

United’s victory now puts them level on points with fifth place Arsenal in the league, and they face Brighton next at Old Trafford as they look to overtake Arsenal and close the six-point gap on fourth placed Chelsea in the race for the top 4. A Champions league place suddenly looks very achievable for United, and it would be hard to look past Solksjaer for keeping the job on a full-time basis if they can manage to pull it off.
