On Sky Sports’ brilliant The Debate show, Danny Murphy and Liam Rosenior discuss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to bring Sir Alex Ferguson to Carrington where he gave a rousing speech to the players, as reported by The Sun.
Murphy, a former Liverpool player, gave his views on whether these are unique circumstances. He referenced the relationships Ferguson has with Mike Phelan and, of course, Solskjaer and it goes without saying that every player in the dressing room respects him for what he did throughout his managerial career at Old Trafford.
While some will suggest there’s no need to ask a former manager back to cast some influence, Murphy disagrees and argues Ferguson’s presence will bring a sense of comfort to the dressing room.

“I don’t see a problem with it,” Murphy told Sky Sports. “Look at the results on the pitch.”
Then Rosenior, formerly of Brighton & Hove Albion, weighed in with his thoughts.
The retired professional shares his view that United’s problem was turning their back on Fergie’s methods, which began when David Moyes came in and replace significant members of staff such as Phelan.
In order to restore elements of Fergie’s coaching, the club brought back Solskjaer and Phelan, which has only had a positive impact on the team.
Fergie is not your typical manager, he’s the greatest. The Scot stands by the true values of Manchester United and helped shape the club over his 26-years in charge.
Rosenior said: “If I was in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s shoes, why wouldn’t you use the greatest manager of all-time?”
The past month has been an enjoyable ride. Even the simplicity of reporting on United can give you a lift, though that wasn’t echoed during the first half of the season under José Mourinho.
So, the question posed by The Debate was ‘will Sky Alex Ferguson’s trip to Carrington help the Man United squad?’
Of course it will. How stupid would it be to suggest otherwise? Any player at any age could learn something from Ferguson, and Solskjaer made the right decision to ask him to visit Carrington.
