Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has informed Marcus Rashford that he will continue to lead the line for Manchester United and become the club’s main striker, according to a report in the Daily Star.
The report suggests that the interim boss has made Rashford aware of his decision during the club’s warm weather training camp in Dubai. Solskjaer has identified the England international’s best position as striker, despite former manager José Mourinho preferring the player on the left hand side.
Rashford, 21, has made a fantastic start to life under Solskjaer, playing a key role in each of United’s four Premier League wins. The new manager will have no doubt been impressed by his direct approach and willingness to run in behind. The academy graduate has also brought a cutting edge in recent weeks, with goal contributions against Cardiff and Bournemouth and will hope to have a similar impact on Sunday when his side face Tottenham at Wembley.

Solkskjaer’s decision will come as a blow to number 9 Romelu Lukaku, who was signed by Mourinho for £75 million last summer, as per BBC Sport. Lukaku has scored in each of his last 3 appearances for the Reds, including in Saturday’s start in the comfortable 2-0 home win against Reading.
However, it appears the Belgian may now be limited to minutes from the substitutes bench, after a string of poor performances at the start of the season under Mourinho.
Elsewhere, Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera remains in contract talks with the club. Herrera’s current deal runs out this summer, and there is interest from his previous club Atletico Bilbao whom he signed from in 2014. But the player is keen to stay at Old Trafford, and talks are ongoing to secure a new deal, as per Sky Sports.
