Paul Pogba has blamed the inconsistency in his Manchester United performances on his late return from the World Cup.
The midfielder was part of the France squad that won the World Cup in Russia – but the final took place less than four weeks before the start of United’s new Premier League season.
United kicked off the new season with Pogba scoring from the spot in the 2-1 win over Leicester City, though he was unable to play 90 minutes due to a lack in match fitness.

He started the campaign in promising form until United lost two games on the bounce against Brighton and Tottenham, ramping up the pressure on the Frenchman, who already has a strained relationship with manager Jose Mourinho.
Pogba has been pretty vocal about his mood at United, with his nonsense ‘no-one knows what the future holds’ stance in interviews.
When asked if he was “fed up” with all the speculation about his relationship with Mourinho, the 25-year-old said: “It’s not me who’s talking,” he responded, as per The Mirror.
“I’m trying to work on myself physically. I got back late, so I’m trying to perform as well as possible.
“I’m just trying to do my job and for the rest there’ll always be talk.”
Pogba said this after France’s 0-0 draw with Germany in the UEFA Nations League, however that was after an interview he gave to Sky Germany that added to the uncertainty surrounding his future at Old Trafford.
“My future is currently in Manchester,” he said. “I still have a contract. I’m playing there at the moment, but who knows what will happen in the next few months?”
On Mourinho, he added: “We have a pure coach-player relationship. That’s how it is.
“One thing I can assure you: I will always give 100 percent, regardless for which coach. I always give everything for United – I cannot say more.”
What I’d like to know is what Pogba blamed his inconsistency on the past two seasons? After costing the club £89 million back in 2016, a record fee at the time, the former Juventus midfielder has failed to justify his valuation back then and United will want to recoup that amount and more in order to sell him next summer.
