Man Utd identify top target for Director of Football role but face competition from European giants

It is public knowledge that Manchester United are on the lookout for a Director of Football to cushion tensions between Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward while giving the club a better direction for the future.

Woodward, the specialist in failure, is incapable of making adequate football-related decisions and the team is paying a high price as a result.

A number of candidates have been listed, but today’s Gazzetta dello Sport, as per Football-Italia, reports that Barcelona and United are keeping tabs on Monchi, though a break with Roma doesn’t appear to be imminent.

The Spaniard has developed a reputation as one of the best transfer operators in Europe and has spent two seasons in the role with the Giallorossi.

It is also suggested that Roma president James Pallotta will do whatever it takes to keep Monchi at the club.

United desperately need a forward-thinking individual in the driving seat. Even the fans have grown tired of Woodward’s excuses and attempts to undermine Mourinho.

This past summer, the Glazer puppet decided against a number of Mourinho’s transfer targets and that has left the manager in a bad situation with the Premier League season already four games in with United winning just two of those.
