Man Utd blame staff member’s departure for Mourinho’s demeanour

Manchester United sources reportedly fear that the departure of Jose Mourinho’s assistant Rui Faria this summer is a key reason for the manager having a poor demeanour.

This is according to the Daily Star, who cite a club source as explaining how close Mourinho and Faria were, and how his old assistant, who he worked with at a number of top clubs, often stopped the Portuguese manager from going off the rails.

With just two games into the new Premier League campaign, there are suggestions that United are already in crisis mode. Paul Pogba is unhappy and flexing his muscles in an attempt to increase his stake of power, Mourinho went the summer without being backed by Ed Woodward, and the shock defeat to Brighton has pundits talking and slamming United.

Despite an opening day win over Leicester City, the Reds were beaten 3-2 by The Seagulls in the following game, and it seems Mourinho may be feeling the effects of losing Faria in the dressing room.

‘Rui was the only person prepared to stand up to Jose in the past and talk some sense into him at times. They were best mates and inseparable,’ the source is quoted by the Star.

‘Even this could lead to fall-outs, but Jose respected him more than anyone else. Now Rui has gone and isn’t by his side, who knows what could happen? Jose is off the leash and who is going to control him?’

Whether Faria was still at United or not, he would not have enough power to change the way Woodward operates and that is the main reason for Mourinho’s current mood. This doesn’t bode well for the season or even the future.

The problems root from the top, with the Glazers, but even the most optimistic United fan can’t see them selling anytime soon.

United is currently valued at $4 billion. Spare change, anyone?
