De Bruyne hits out at Mourinho after career ‘stopped’ at Chelsea

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne says his career “just stopped” at Chelsea under manager Jose Mourinho.

The 27-year-old playmaker joined Chelsea in the summer of 2012, after a successful loan spell at Werder Bremen, and was expected to be a key part of Mourinho’s plans in the 2013-14 season.

However, De Bruyne was given only three Premier League games that season to prove his worth to the manager and was eventually sold to Wolfsburg in a deal believed to be worth £18 million.

Since then, De Bruyne’s development has gone through the roof and he is now recognised as one of the very best in his position. He returned to the Premier League in 2015 to join City and hasn’t looked back since.

Speaking on Amazon’s documentary series of City’s 2017-18 league title triumph, All Or Nothing, De Bruyne said: “I was only 20 years old when I decided to sign for Chelsea, I got my chance in the first team [at Chelsea] in the first few games and I thought ‘Okay, everything is going well, played okay and they won the games.’

“One day it just stopped.”

It was announced on Wednesday that De Bruyne had suffered a serious knee injury whilst training. The club said the full extent is not yet known, but reports have claimed he could be sidelined for four months, as per The Mirror.

He was seen on crutches at The Printworks in Manchester city centre and is expected to fly to Barcelona for further tests with Dr. Ramon Cugat, a specialist who treated him when he suffered a knee injury in January 2016.
