Everton agree deal for reported Man Utd defensive target

Everton have agreed on a deal to sign Colombian centre-back Yerry Mina in a deal worth £32 million according to Catalan newspaper Sport. The Barcelona player has been strongly linked with a switch to Manchester United this summer, but now he looks to be heading to Merseyside.

Mina scored three goals in three World Cup and was on the radar of United manager Jose Mourinho, despite rarely featuring domestically for Barcelona last year.

The Reds are still keen on signing a new centre-back and Leicester’s Harry Maguire and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld remain Mourinho’s prime defensive targets.

It is still unclear whether United will get any more deals over the line with just four days of the window to go. Leicester will demand a world-record fee for last year’s player of the season Harry Maguire after the Englishman’s impressive performances at the World Cup.

Reports on Saturday night suggested a deal had been agreed for Alderweireld to come to Old Trafford for within the next 48 hours, a player who would be ideal for Mourinho’s side.

Speaking after United’s defeat in their final pre-season game against Bayern Munich, Mourinho reiterated his need for at least one more addition: “I know that he (Ed Woodward) tries to do the best for me and I still have a few days to wait what is going to happen. If we don’t make our team better it will be a difficult season for us.”
