European giants distance themselves from signing Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial continues to see his Manchester United future called into question, but he will not be heading to Bayern Munich this summer.

With the clock now ticking towards deadline day, leading clubs across Europe are busy finalising their recruitment plans. Well, Ed Woodward is probably playing Fortnite or something equally distracting.

Jokes aside, Martial could be among those heading out of Old Trafford.

Manager Jose Mourinho has hinted that the France international could be offloaded, but Bundesliga champions Bayern have moved to distance themselves from links to the 22-year-old, which have been frequently reported throughout the summer.

After suggestions were made that Martial could be acquired in a swap deal involving Jerome Boateng, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told Bild: “We have four wingers: Ribery, Robben, Coman and Gnabry. And Davies will join in January.

“You shouldn’t overdo it. That’s what some clubs do, but then it’s a problem for the coach.”

Is that a dig at United or am I just being paranoid? Probably the latter, but it’s also a point that registers with Mourinho, who had too many players available to him on the left, still went out to sign Alexis Sanchez in January, which then created issues not only for Martial but Marcus Rashford too.

After being left out of France’s victorious World Cup squad, the former AS Monaco forward prematurely left United’s pre-season tour to attend the birth of his son, Swan.

He has since faced criticism from Mourinho for not rushing back to the States, despite United having only one game remaining at the time. The player has since sought to clarify his situation while confirming his return to training in Manchester, but the exit talk surrounding him appears set to rumble on.

Buckle up your seat belts, it’s going to be a hectic week.
