Manchester United are trying to strike a deal with Real Madrid for Mateo Kovacic, according to Spanish daily Marca, as per 101 Great Goals.
The report claims that United have tabled a €60 million offer for Kovacic and on Tuesday it was suggested that we would go to battle with Liverpool for the midfielder’s signature.
Since his move to the Santiago Bernabeu from Inter Milan in 2015, the Croatia international has endured an up-and-down experience with Los Blancos.
Aged 24, Kovacic is behind Casemiro, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in the pecking order, although his fellow compatriot is being strongly linked with Inter, as per The Guardian, which could free up room for Julen Lopetegui to make more frequent use of his potential wantaway star.
Marca also reports that Kovacic isn’t keen on a move to Old Trafford because he apparently believes his style wouldn’t fit Jose Mourinho’s conservative approach.
If that’s true, we can safely say this transfer story has little foundations.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have also been rumoured to be chasing Kovacic, with Maurizio Sarri’s attacking brand of football more suited.
Kovacic’s profile went through the roof after Croatia reached the 2018 World Cup final and that should give his value a boost, too. He played 183 minutes during the tournament, recording just one assist.
Croatia went on to suffer a 4-2 defeat in the final at the hands of France.
