Man Utd and Chelsea approach European giants over midfielder’s availability

According to ESPN FC, Manchester United and Chelsea have both enquired about signing Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.

This is not the first time United have made attempts to sign the Spain international, after David Moyes’ efforts were made public in 2013 before Thiago decided to reunite with Pep Guardiola at the Bundesliga outfit.

Thiago, 27, is now being linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena but sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said the German champions planned to keep him.

A return to Barcelona has also been mooted, with Thiago more than capable of filling either Andres Iniesta or Paulinho’s void, but ESPN claim interest from England has proved to be the strongest so far.

The player may also be up for a new challenge and the Premier League would bring just that. We have until August 9 to sign players after the top-flight clubs in England agreed to shorten the transfer window.

Bayern already have midfielders such as Javi Martinez, Arturo Vidal, Sebastian Rudy, Corentin Tolisso, Leon Goretzka, James Rodriquez, Thomas Muller, Renato Sanchez on their books. Selling a player like Thiago is never easy, but it’s not as if they’ve a shortage of alternatives in their squad.
