Man Utd emerge as favourites to sign England World Cup sensation

While we’re not saying the bookies know anything about the inside scoop at Manchester United, the Reds have emerged as the favourites to sign England World Cup sensation Harry Maguire.

The Leicester City centre-back has shone for the Three Lions in Russia and scored the opening goal in Saturday’s quarter-final win over a below average Sweden side.

Ladbrokes, one of the leading bookmakers, price a move to United at 9/4 while Liverpool are 5/2 to snap him up before the transfer window shuts.

Manchester City (11/4), Tottenham (9/2), Chelsea (6/1) and Arsenal (8/1) are also on the list, according to the bookmaker, but that’s not to suggest any of those clubs are in the running.

They’ve even listed Barcelona and Real Madrid at 16/1.

Although, a new centre-back is very much on Jose Mourinho’s radar due to the Portuguese coach being unsure with the defenders he already has to pick from.

For a defensive-minded coach, that’s a huge issue.

Eric Bailly – the club’s best defenders by some distance – fell out of favour towards the end of the previous campaign while Victor Lindelof, who looked impressive for Sweden at the World Cup, struggled to impress following his move from Benfica.

Maguire joined Leicester from Hull City for around £17 million last summer as the Tigers saw themselves relegated to the Championship. The 25-year-old went on to play every minute for the Foxes in the Premier League, which lead to a deserved call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
