(Watch) Ashley Young and Jesse Lingard with stunning assists for England

Harry Maguire scored a much-deserved first goal for England in today’s World Cup quarter-final clash with Sweden.

Manchester United left-back Ashley Young provided the assist for the game’s opener. He swung in a superb corner on the half-hour mark and Maguire attacked the ball with power and deadly accuracy to find the back of the net.

Maguire has been a revelation since becoming a regular for the Three Lions and he’s going to find himself on the back pages if his goal takes England through to the World Cup semi-finals.

We can’t ignore the fact Sweden defended the corner abysmally.

They knew going into the game how England have scored many of their goals at this tournament from set-pieces. The way in which they conceded the first is inexcusable.

And, they didn’t learn their lesson from the first-half which would suggest they only have themselves to blame for being naive.

Moreover, Jesse Lingard popped in with an assist to set-up Tottenham star Dele Alli with an in-swinging cross. Alli superbly headed up.

Sweden now need to do something dramatic to get themselves back in the game.
