Manchester United are close to completing the signing of Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant, according to Press Association Sport and Sky Sport News.

Grant, 35, is due to undergo a medical with the club this week ahead of sealing a free transfer to Old Trafford.

The Reds are hoping to secure a deal for Grant to work as back-up to both David de Gea or Sergio Romero in the event of suspension or injury.

United are now close to announcing their third signing of the summer with a deal for the Stoke City goalkeeper close to being finalised.

Grant would come in and sit behind De Gea and Romero in the pecking order, whilst Sam Johnstone is close to signing for West Brom, as per 101 Great Goals, and Joel Pereira set to be sent out on loan to develop with first-team football.

It will be interesting to see how this story develops over the coming days, but the sources reporting it are certainly credible.
