Marouane Fellaini’s future is set to be resolved “soon” as his Manchester United contract expires this week, according to Manchester Evening News.
Fellaini turned down a new deal at the club back in September and he will become a free agent at midnight on Saturday.
Jose Mourinho has previously made it clear in the past that Fellaini remains part of his plans, though the midfielder’s hardline stance and attempts to put the club to ransom have forced the manager’s hand in the transfer market.
United have already signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, who is currently in Russia hoping Brazil win the World Cup.
Fellaini appears destined to leave the Reds after five years, amid alleged interest from China, Turkey, AC Milan, and Arsenal.
When asked about his contract situation with United, Fellaini replied: “You will know soon.”
Back in April, Mourinho said: “We are going to invest the basic and improve our squad.
“We need to find a replacement for Michael Carrick, if Marouane Fellaini leaves, we need to find a replacement for Marouane Fellaini.”
Mourinho has shown interest in Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini.
United fans have become angered by Fellaini playing out a saga and letting it drag on all summer. At least this weekend, if nothing is signed, we’ll be done with Fellaini and can move on from pre-historic lump-ball tactics.
