Real Madrid star supports Paul Pogba against constant criticism

Real Madrid star Raphael Varane has come out in support of his international teammate Paul Pogba following the criticism received from the media.

The Manchester United midfielder has got it from all angles since returning from Juventus in 2016 and continues to be talked about following his match-winning performance against Australia in France’s World Cup opening game.

Unsurprisingly, it wasn’t all positive for Pogba despite winning the man of the match award and saving France by scoring a deflected goal. FIFA took the goal from Pogba and gave it as an own goal instead.

Varane has spoken out against the criticism the talented midfield receives but has also insisted that it doesn’t phase Pogba as he’s a positive person.

According to the Daily Star, Varane said: “A lot of negativity is said [about Pogba], it’s a reality. We all seek to retain the positivity.

“Often, we talk about more negative things [in press conferences]. But he is not resentful, he remains positive anyway. If you [the media] could be a little more positive, it would be cool.”

Pogba has clearly started his World Cup campaign strongly and we hope that continues throughout the tournament and into next season.

It remains to be seen how Jose Mourinho will line-up in midfield next season — much dependant on who else United sign — but I’d take a guess at a trio consisting of Nemanja Matic, Fred and Pogba.

France take on Peru tomorrow at 16:00. We’ll be keeping a close eye on the United star.
