The ABU press are drafting their ‘The one that got away’ opinion pieces on Jorginho for when the Italy international turns up at Manchester City after we’ve overspent on the second coming of Marouane Fellaini.
Weeks after the Independent made it clear he had snubbed United, Jorginho’s agent this afternoon spoke out about the possibility of his client making a summer move to City.
According to Football-Italia.net, the 26-year-old made more passes per game than any other player in Europe’s top 5 league last season, therefore, plays into the Pep Guardiola narrative nicely.
Jorginho sits in a deep-lying midfield role and would probably be regarded as a like-for-like replacement for Michael Carrick by those who watch him regularly in Italy.
Joao Santos, who represents Jorginho in an agent’s capacity, has spoken out on several occasions with regards to his client’s links to the Premier League, but usually remains coy on the interest of individual clubs.
However, speaking in an interview with CalcioNapoli24, as per 101 Great Goals, Santos finally confirmed the interest of City, before endorsing a potential move to the Etihad for his client by revealing that finding an agreement between he and the club ‘won’t be a problem’.
‘Jorginho is still under contract, but if Napoli find an agreement with City then he goes to Manchester.’
‘Finding an agreement with the English won’t be a problem, considering their importance, but I repeat it depends on Napoli as the player is tied to the Azzurri for two more years.’
‘City are champions of England and among Europe’s top clubs. Now we must stay calm. If Napoli and City find a solution, we can talk about it, otherwise the player will be happy to stay at Napoli.’
‘For now, I haven’t heard from anyone at Napoli because I imagine they’re busy planning for next season.’
‘I hope to hear from their director, and maybe he’ll be in Naples in the next few days to talk about [Jorginho].’
