Man City pull out of race for midfielder with Old Trafford ‘the most likely destination’

Manchester United reportedly have a clear run at Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred with rivals Manchester City expected to step aside.

According to Brazilian outlet UOL today, as per Sport Witness, Pep Guardiola’s side have chosen to focus on the signing of Napoli midfield anchor Jorginho.

That could mean United have a clearer path to sign Fred. UOL claim Fred’s staff regard Old Trafford as ‘the most likely destination’.

However, Fred was interviewed by Brazilian TV channel SporTV on Tuesday confirming that leaving Shakhtar at the end of the season is a real possibility.

Last week, Shakhtar captain Dario Srna revealed during the club’s title celebration that Fred was heading to one of the two top-flight Manchester clubs, report the Metro.

Fred has made over 150 appearances for Shakhtar since joining the club back in 2013 but the 25-year-old is looking for something new. The Premier League would be seen a big step up from the Ukrainian league.

It now teams United are leading the race for Fred’s signature.
