Spanish giants to tie up deal for Man Utd target

Manchester United have been linked with so many centre-backs of late I’m beginning to lose track.

Victor Lindelof has struggled to adapt to the Premier League in his first season and has only made 12 starts following a big money move from Benfica.

Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are hardly Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, and Eric Bailly is being left out in the cold, as per the Mirror.

One defender strongly linked with United is Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti.

Umtiti, 24, is coming off the back of a successful second season at Camp Nou after being part of Barcelona’s La Liga winning side. He was a regular in Ernesto Valverde’s side, but it will be interesting to see if he fancies a new challenge for his career.

According to The Sun, Barcelona are ‘desperate’ to tie Umtiti down to a new contract in the coming weeks, in a bid to increase the France international’s £52 million buy-out-clause.

United’s next move could be key. Defensive reinforcements are needed if we’re to challenge City next season.
