Manchester United legend urges promising star to resist Old Trafford switch

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in signing Ajax starlet Justin Kluivert, as per the Daily Mail. The 18-year-old is the son of Barcelona and Netherlands legend Patrick Kluivert and seems to have the potential to play for clubs of the same stature.

Speculation flooded through a year ago after United beat Ajax 2-0 in the Europa League final, when Mourinho had a brief word with the then 17-year-old at full-time.

Kluivert has since risen as one of the hottest prospects from the Netherlands and I’m sure the weight of the world is on his shoulders thanks to expectations from people that view him the same way they viewed his father.

According to the Mirror, Kluivert is set to turn down a new deal which would make him the highest paid player at the Amsterdam club following interest from the Reds. But there’s a catch. Former United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar is now Ajax chief executive officer and despite spending six seasons at Old Trafford, making more than 260 appearances, he has urged Kluivert jnr to remain at Ajax to continue his development.

Kluivert has netted nine times in 29 games for Ajax this season, and his exploits for the Dutch giants have caught United’s attention.
