Jose Mourinho desperate for Marouane Fellaini to stay

Jose Mourinho has urged Marouane Fellaini not to walk out on Manchester United.

If Fellaini doesn’t sign a contract renewal between now and the end of the season, he can leave Old Trafford for free. Mourinho does not want that to happen despite fans on the terrace often dismissing the Belgium international as not good enough.

The Daily Star claim Fellaini has been holding talks with several clubs in Europe, including Inter Milan and Fenerbahce.

But the United boss says he wants to keep the midfielder and hopes he signs his new deal that is on the table.

Mourinho said: “I’m still positive about the situation,” as per Manchester Evening News.

“It’s important (he stays) because he’s a player that I like.

“He’s in a different situation to the rest with his contract. He can control what he does.

“But I want him to stay and he knows the club wants him to stay as well.

“He has an offer and it’s up to him – yes or no.

“But I think he likes the feeling of the manager trusting him and there’s a good chance he’ll stay.”

Stretty News believes more talks are sent to get underway between Fellaini’s representatives and United this week, but no definite outcome has been briefed.

United travel to Brighton tomorrow night and Mourinho is without his main man up front Romelu Lukaku, although that should grant Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford the opportunity to impress.

Three points will all-but secure second place in the table.
