Spanish paper links United strongly with €60m defender having contractual issues

Another day, more Samuel Umtiti updates to bring you.

AS claims, as per Sport Witness, whilst there’s confidence brewing at Camp Nou about a contract renewal, the deal on the table has yet to be signed by Umtiti, and they’re slightly concerned about interest from other European clubs, ‘especially’ Manchester United.

As we reported on Monday, Umtiti has a €60 million buyout clause but this story suggests United have offered ‘triple’ the player’s wages, which is the sort of money you pay for a fully established French international nowadays.

Reports from Sport claim Mourinho is keen to sign the Frenchman before the World Cup kicks-off in Russia.

For United’s sake at least, it would be a pleasure to see Umtiti lining up in Red behind compatriot Paul Pogba next season. He might not have a good footballing reason to leave Barcelona, but a generous pay packet always gets the attention of agents and players alike.

With reports of Eric Bailly feeling frozen out of late, as per the Mirror, United may need to totally reshuffle their defence next season. Mourinho left the Ivorian out of his squad that beat Arsenal 2-1 last weekend.
