Former Manchester United player linked with £3m return

Northern Ireland defender Johnny Evans is expected to be on the move this summer with West Brom destined for relegation to the Championship.

Evans could leave The Hawthorns for as little as £3 million but United will face competition with Arsenal and Manchester City previously linked with the centre back, as per Goal, although The Baggies refused to sanction a late deal in January.

It is a relief to see smaller clubs, such as West Brom, refuse to give in whenever big clubs come knocking. Premier League safety was still a distant possibility at the time and losing Evans at that stage would have proved a hindrance.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, Evans could be set for a return to Old Trafford. The same report suggests the reason he could leave for £3m is there’s a clause in his contract to sanction such a deal if West Brom go down.

A player of that calibre is too good to be playing in the Championship, and considering the significantly low fee he could go with it would be a surprise to see the top clubs of English football pass on such a deal.
