Reports this morning suggest Manchester United are preparing a move to AS Monaco winger Thomas Lemar if Anthony Martial leaves this summer.
We already covered the story that manager Jose Mourinho would not stand in the way of Martial if the Frenchman wants to move on for more game time, although it strikes he as odd that Lemar is allegedly seen as a better option.
Mourinho would apparently rather have a natural left footer on that side of his attack making Lemar a target.
Arsenal and Liverpool have been long admirers of Lemar, but now United have joined the running.
But since Arsenal are on the lookout for a new manager it remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger’s replacement will want an addition such as Lemar as he attempts to build a squad of his own at the Emirates.
Liverpool, on the other hand, would probably struggle to find a place in the starting eleven for Lemar with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah playing on either flank. When spending £90m on a player they ought to be signed to improve the starting eleven rather than come in as a squad player.
I’m not convinced by this transfer story, therefore, will be taking it with a pinch of salt.
