Manchester United eye Jorginho as alternative to Toni Kroos

According to Chief Football Writer of the Independent, Miguel Delaney, Toni Kroos remains top choice for Manchester United but the Italian international is seen by Jose Mourinho as a greatly adept and an altogether more viable option this summer.

Jorginho is also wanted by Liverpool and Manchester City, so, being an alternative option doesn’t make the process easy. It will still be a challenge to land the Napoli star.

It was reported on Wednesday morning that United are leading the race for £50 million rated midfielder Fred, of Shakhtar Donetsk, but Delaney is one of the more reliable journalists out there. That said, United should be aiming to sign two midfielders this summer with Michael Carrick retiring and Marouane Fellaini on his way.

However, Jorginho is long seen as a replacement for Carrick due to his passing and ability to quicken attacks — a trait in midfield this United side desperately needs. Fellaini, on the other hand, doesn’t necessarily need to be replaced but the squad would be light in that department if he was to leave. Too light to go a full season.

The 26-year-old has essential in Napoli’s title challenge this season, having gone from strength to strength since joining the club from Verona in 2014.
