According to French news outlet Telefoot, Barcelona are preparing to offer €100 million for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.
Aged 19, Upamecano has risen to stardom after helping Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side end last season in second place.
The French defender, seen as a future figure within the Les Bleus backline, recently told Telefoot that “as a youngster, you dream of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, but to get there, you have to work.”
However, Upamencano has been on United’s radar since 2015 but there is not a reported £100 million price tag on his name.
It’s interesting to see Barcelona linked with another defender since United are heavily touted with Samuel Umtiti, and if he was to leave Camp Nou the Catalans would be in search of a replacement.
Jose Mourinho knows he needs a new centre back for next season and he plans to bolster the entire defence, with the full-back areas set to be significantly improved. It would cause great disappointment if the Reds were to approach next season still playing wingers in right and left back roles.
This is certainly a story to keep an eye on.
